Marble Restoration to give fresh look to floors

The durability of the stone floor is often tested with long use, whether it is a public building or your home. To avoid extra wear and tear of the flooring, we can use the sealing method. Natural stone sealing is not a very complicated process, and it can maintain the natural beauty of the stone, preventing any further damage or staining.

Here is how we, at Marble Pro’s Polishing & Restoration, handle this process:

  • We use a sealant that is impregnated with a number of materials that can help the surface by covering it with a uniform protective coat. This coat shields the stone from dirt repeatedly brought in by our feet, and from moisture also.
  • We carry out a cleaning process before sealing any patch of the surface. This is done to ensure that no dirt gets embedded in the coat, which, in turn, will affect the stone too.
  • We offer sealants of the best quality to our customers, as this has a direct effect on this very important process. We try to use tropical sealants, as they offer superior quality, better protection and longevity.

A point to remember is that the eventual durability of the sealant or the effect of the sealing procedure depends not only on the type and finish of the stone being used, but also on the daily wear and tear that the stone is exposed to. For instance, if you take a floor piece, apply the same process and keep it in a closet, there would be no deteriorating effect for years.

The sealing process, however effective it might be, should not be used on any and every stone. It would just be a waste of your money, effort and time. There is a quick way to test if your floor needs sealing. Take a few drops of water and sprinkle them on the floor bed. If the water is absorbed, your floor definitely needs a sealing process. If not, then your floor is in a healthy condition without any coating. It typically takes 5 to 10 years for any residential flooring to be worn out completely, and if it is granite, it could last well up to 15 years.

If you are doing this on your own, remember to clean the entire floor area thoroughly before you begin the sealing process. Once you have applied the sealant, let it stay for 3 to 5 minutes. You can use a floor buffer to remove the excess sealant from the floor. If the sealant dries up immediately, apply another coat and wait for 24 hours. After this is done, try the water test once more to examine if the sealing is proper.
